3 years

I'm a little late this year, but it's been 3 years (+ 2 weeks) since my achilles injury.

Looking back at last year's post, I realise I still haven't exactly got back into regular exercise, but that's not because of the achilles.

Actually, that's not entirely correct. In the last 3 weeks I've been walking to work every day - about 5kms all up there and back. I'll often go a few weeks where I all but forget all about it, then some days it will ache for seemingly no reason and remind me all over again. Mostly, though, it's my knee that gives me more grief. Even walking all over Japan earlier this year and San Francisco a few months ago - including a bike ride from Pier 39 over the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito - I don't remember the achilles being a problem.

My right calf is still (just) noticeably smaller than the left, which I'm still a little self conscious of, especially as the weather warms up and I'm forced out of jeans and into shorts. But as summer arrives each year, I'm just thankful not to have to spend it in a big, bulky, uncomfortable, and surprisingly warm boot 24/7.
