I am your team's lucky charm

The San Francisco Giants just clinched their first World Series win in 54 years, and I may have been their lucky charm. To explain why, I have to take you back to 2005...

In November of 2005 I visited the US for the first time. On this trip I visited my friends Sara and Dave in North Carolina. While there, they took me to see the Carolina Hurricanes play ice hockey. Despite a 9-nil loss on the night, the Hurricanes went on to win the Stanley Cup.

Fast forward to May of 2007, when I visited the US a second time. While in Boston we managed to get tickets to a Red Sox game. Again, the home team lost, but the Red Sox went on to win the World Series.

Interestingly, on that same trip we tried to see the White Sox play in Chicago, but the game was postponed due to rain. The universe obviously couldn't let me see two games on the one trip because there can be only one World Series winner.

That brings us to August this year, when I happened to be in San Francisco visiting friends - my 3rd US trip. We got in a baseball game while there, and although the Giants won that night, it was in extra innings and we had to leave before the end of the game as our friends had to go to work the next day. So once again, I didn't get to see a home team win.

And then today, they too clinched the World Series, making me 3 from 3. Coincidence? I think not! :P

One last story to note: in March this year we visited Japan and got to see the Orix Buffaloes play in Osaka. The home team won that day, but checking online it doesn't look like being a championship year for them.

So if you want your team to win a championship, take me to watch them play: just make sure I don't see them win and they're a sure thing! :P
